(second review) On further examination, though, it's not completely ad-free -- they incorporate text links (to BBS, porn sites, etc.) at the top and bottom of every page. FTP upload seems fine so far, except for an initial lag when one tries to connect to the server.

Agreed. If you don't mind making translations (or if you already understand Japanese), registration is swift and painless.

Alright i just registered with this webhost today so i don't know how good it really is but they say it's a lot of megs and no ads and they are definitely not as strict as most hosts when it comes to site content..
Anyway since I know barely any of you can read japanese (including me) i'll help you out with registration
When you go to the site just click the image with the big foward arrow symbol..then it gives you the terms of agreement and then you register..if you need any help translating it, i used an online translator at http://www.worldlingo.com/wl/Translate
the blocks to fill in are as follows..
1)e-mail adress
2)User ID
3)Password
4)Password Verification
and then continue at the bottom
then you get a message in japanese that roughly means to say
"The mail of verification was transmitted to the mail address which you input.
Waiting for the arrival of the mail, following to the contents of the mail, please operate."
then from there i guess you just wait.
