When I tried to sign-up for a free account (with the subdomain), it said that there was an error 404 -- the signup page is missing.

The problem I had with this host is that, in order to overwrite the files, you've got to delete what's already there first and then reload them again. That's simply too long for me to deal with.
Another problem I had was that, when I typed the site address into the address bar without including the extension slash, it often couldn't load the pictures on the front page, and to do so properly, I had to work such a gimmick as going to another page, clicking back to the homepage, and this is what would help to load the pictures, and then, if I pushed the back option on the browser to go back to where I'd turned to the front page the first time, the pictures would show correctly. In other words, for the pictures to show properly when accessing your website on IPowerhosts via the address bar, you've got to make sure to include the extension slash at the end of the site's URL.
The e-mail system here was also very slow in receiving, if not in sending, another detractor.
On the plus side, the server is pretty fast, but since it's very complicated to load files, because of the requirements for "overwriting" them, that's why I wouldn't recommend this free web host for anyone who finds the requirements here too complicated for their use.

Control panel looks nice, has several templates and features, but is a bit buggy.
You can upload 10 files at a time, these file types allowed:
htm html txt wav au mid gif jpg jpeg png css doc js pdf
The text links at bottom say

I've just signed up, seems simple enough. But they DO put a footer at the bottom that is supposedly "tasteful". Not quite ad-free. IT'S NOT TASTEFUL AND IT'S NOT SMALL. At least not by my standards. I would not list it on this list, it is misleading.
Comes with some really *ahem* 'special' templates. Not incredibly useful, but all the same. The way you edit and stuff is nice and tasteful. Uses the online WYSIWYG editor. Didn't require too much information upon registration.
[I just checked several of its free sites I found on Google, and they all had a small set of text links at the bottom to its hosting.]

A good host, instant signup (details are sent to your e-mail). Nice speed, high uptime. No ads, FTP etc.
