Now you have to purchase shell accounts to manage your sites, so its not free anymore.
"2005.10.25 polarhome new policy's implementation has been started. In next few days all ftp account's webspace will be denied. Users can download their web content through Usermin (detaild description in FAQ) . This policy modification was needed in order to protect polarhome from users that use their ftp accounts for phishing, spoofing, distribute warez, running pirate forums and other malicious activity."

Polarhome does offer a free php+mysql hosting on a unix operating system of your choice but... The speeds are terribly slow, the support in forums isnt so newbie-friendly (a typical response in forums can be RTM). Basically if you are willng to read manuals and dont care much about the speeds, this free webhosting is ok.

Has a wide variety of unix-like operating systems that you can choose to create your account. You may need a basic understanding of ports to get around. It is more of a 'network' hangout, rather than a 'web' paradise.

been searching for a web host for the past week, this one lays it down very nicely. It has very uncommon features for free web hosting, such as server side scripting.

Great site 20megs +5megs for MySQL, PHP support. A bit slow at times, but you get what you pay for  . Only charge on this host is if you want shell access. FTP acccess is free on all accounts.

PolarHome is a great host with great features, including everything for anyone wanting to run a forum, which I am using the service for. The one reason I haven't given this host a 10/10 rating is that the server I have signed up to use is currently down, although all others are up.
The support on their forums is brilliant from what I have seen so far, the moderators and admin are kind and simple in their answers to problems, and continue to reply if there is still a problem.
Overall I would highly recommend this host to anyone who is looking for quality web hosting.

Very good! It's the only free provider without ads! It may have some problems but the speed is OK and so is the FTP you can upload whatever file you want and whatever size you want and without seeing 1 ad! Not even in their homepage! Highly suggested!
