It has terrible uptime, and is way too commercial, luring in a bunch of newbie who like the copy-and-paste style of coding web pages. Ugh. Notice there are NO professional sites who host on freewebs. Also there is no PHP, ASP, SSI, FTP, or mySQL databases.

Freewebs is probably one of the worst of the many hosts I have used. Half the time my webpages never work, even with their ugly templates; all I get is a normal webpage but missing all of the paragraphs, and when I realized this, I have to set another webpage template. There is also this annoying downtime when I get a "This page cannot be displayed" error about every hour. What really bugged me though is that their tacky widgets which just make your site look like a 12 year old's MySpace work full and well, but their semi-useful scripts such as their blog would not work at all. The only thing that saves this from having a "1" rating is their decent forum script.

I am a very sad to say after years of being with this host, they have been ATTEMPTING upgrades to the service and have failed terribly. At this point you cannot add or edit anything to your web site. This is not good at all when you are trying to build and run a prosperous business. It is time for me and a lot of other members to find a new host.

Freewebs USED to be wonderful. A month ago, I would have given them a 10 rating. Over the last year, I worked to build a web site for myself and others in my field as a quick place to get information. This has been a year long project, and now I understand that my website could be GONE in a heartbeat.
1. There is NO possible way to save your website when in site builder mode [you could save it a webpage at a time in your browser, or use one of the many free website scraper utilities]. Thus if someone decides to hack your site, and hit the delete key [though very unlikely], too bad!
2. Since they started this new site builder mode, it has been horrible. My web pages look all messed up. Lots of times I can not get into my website. Lots of time I can not even view my website.
3. I create web pages, and before I have the chance to save them, they are gone!
If you loved freewebs before, you will not any longer.

Freewebs recently renamed my website to www1.url.com for 3-4 weeks. Then they changed it back to www.url.com. Most of my website traffic came from organic search results. Now all the search engines have me indexed as www1.url.com that leads to a 404 error page that I have no control over due to freewebs not allowing .htaccess access. I have been constantly emailing their support (there is no phone support) and receiving a generic "your site works fine" reply three days later. I have been financially affected by this for more than the $100 a year cost of the hosting. In my opinion, stay clear of freewebs!

FreeWebs is a good site that I have been with for over 4 years. Unfortunately it is going through some difficult growing pains right now, so signing up may not be prudent until they have updated the service more. Still, they have added a lot of functionality to the site, with widgets giving you some added extras. Third party scripts can be added for enhancing your free web site pages.

Having been a freewebs user for about 4 years now, I have seen a lot of improvement since when I first joined. For example, when I first joined, in effect you could only have 49 paragraphs per account (7 per page, and 7 pages per account). However, when they introduced the "Insert Paragraph", I found a glitch that allowed me to get more than 7 paragraphs per page ;-), but since then they have removed the paragraph and page limit. However, to work out how many ads there will be on a specific page (round up!), use the formula 1/7n-1=y where n is the number of paragraphs and y is the number of ads in that page. However, whilst I have advertised the improvements with the Site Builder that have been made during time, I would also like to talk about some new features. As mentioned in a previous review, Freewebs has a selection of games that can be added as "Widgets" (do not ask me why they named it that), including Tetris, Sonic, and some other game classics. They also have many other widgets, such as hit counters and countdown clocks. Their downtime record is unblemished as far as I know. From all my time in using Free Webs, I have seen their servers down 0% of the time. However, whilst so far I have shown FreeWebs in a positive light, no web hosting company is perfect, and one of the things that annoys me most is loading times. Combine that with a laptop that frequently drops the internet connection, and you have a recipe for disaster. Overall, this is a really good freehosting company with all it is features and functions, and I would recommend it hands down to most people, but if you need a website that loads quickly, you will have to turn away from FreeWebs.

Wow, this is an amazing host. I used freewebs for the host, and a free domain from another site. The WYSIWYG webpage editor is incredible. The web site templates to make webpages are amazing. There are some things that you cannot customize, but you can include some html in your website. It works fine for simple websites. Thank you.

Two days ago I discovered that my freewebs hosted website was unavailable - even though I have been paying each year for almost four years for premium services and to have it available! Baffled, I continued to try for the next day to access my website, finally doing so, to learn that its url was changed, and now includes a "1" embedded in the "www" portion. Not only that, but many of the numerous photos are missing! I logged on to learn that the fee for staying with freewebs, in order to maintain the same services, has doubled! When I tried to engage a customer service rep, I quickly got a message saying one was not available! Over time, I have been very unhappy with the amount of downtime with my site, the number of times my photos, counters or other parts of my web site have simply gone missing, and the inaccessibility of the company (no toll-free line for paying customers, poorly trained staff, etc.). I'VE HAD IT WITH FREEWEBS! They spend time installing cute gadgets and writing cute messages, and no time on where they should be spending it. I would love to see their customer retention rate - I bet it is low.

Freewebs is by far the one of the best hosting sites out there. It is great for people new to the internet. Ignore any negative reviews, because they do not know what they are talking about. The only problems I have encountered is with my own errors, and freewebs makes it really hard to make an error, because they show you how everything is done. I recommend freewebs webhosting to everyone, pros and people who are on the internet for the first time. Freewebs is just great! :-)

Freewebs is an average free host. They are more for beginners who have no idea how to code webpages. More experienced webmasters will not find freewebs any use. On my past experience with them I would have given them a 3 rating but since visiting again I found that the banners and popups had been replaced by a text link. For beginners there is a very clean looking and easy to use site builder with plenty of free website templates. Their servers are ok but not brilliant. They offer around 40MB of file space, which compared with many other freehosts is puny, and 500mb of monthly bandwidth allowed. Overall, if you are looking for a beginners free host then freewebs hosting will do for you, but if you are more serious about hosting then freewebs would not be suitable.

I used the "upload your own site" option on freewebs because I did not like the page limit and the templates available for the other option and wanted to write my own page in HTML. Later I found out that none of my friends could see my site. I uploaded my site on another host and ran it on my computer with different browsers to make sure that there was nothing wrong with the code, and it worked fine. My conclusion is that the freewebs service provided for people who upload their own sites is terrible compared to the template option. I will not go back to that website until I get an explanation as to why nobody can see my website.

Freewebs is average. They have text links, and the url of your free home page contains their name unless you use the pay service. They actually have nice templates, which surprised me. They are good if you are a beginner or if you do not plan on keeping your website forever. I have made multiple websites but never kept them. They are good for beginners but not for businesses or serious, professional websites.

I think it is an average site, though not the best if you are looking for a place to start a big website, but if you are like me, who has a forum of 400 members and is just looking for a small place to start a website free, it is great, although the lack of MySQL and PHP5 kind of bothers me, and it makes me want to not go there. Also the lack of service makes me mad. But on the flip side, they do offer good webmaster tools to use and free web site templates (although they are slow) and pre-made codes sometimes. If you know how to use it, it is great, but if you do not, it is bad - simple as that.

Freewebs has nifty, easy-to-use widgets such as blogs, guestbooks, shout boxes, and more. It is easy to use, but has some bad points. For example, Free Webs does not support PHP and mySQL databases. It has pretty bad support, and there are a number of complaints to them. I would not recommend this to experienced webmasters, but instead to beginners who want personal, easy-to-build websites. The templates are slow-loading and annoying. Most freewebs users put plenty of images, thus making the templates/site load even slower. I am not sure about the downtime.

This is, in my opinion, below average web host. Freewebs is slow and encourages users to use their free web site templates which do not produce nice sites. Although very recommendable for beginners who are learning about building web sites, it limits scripting and other advanced features. It is popular, yes, because there are many beginning website makers who find this host handy. There is however much more better and more professional free web hosts. If I did not make myself clear: it is worth giving a try, at least if you are a newbie.

The site is excellent for basic needs, but that is all. They have absolutely no scripting support, nor iframes allowed! I had attempted to use iframes so that I may link to another provider (for use with PHP RSS Feed Readers, etc.) and it will not allow it. They have limited configurability, and even intermediate web developers will suffer with their lack of features. I gave it a 2 rating instead of a 1 only because for a new user who is using basic html for a web space, it will work. If you are planning on doing anything interesting you can pretty much forget it, with the exception of CSS. Banner ads are understandable with a free website (they have to recover the cost of the webhosting servers somehow), however restricting what the users can do to this degree is not good at all. Additionally, you are essentially forced to use their menu editor, which can look sloppy if you have more than 5-6 links.

Freewebs is the best host I have found so far. They have an easy page editor, as well as many website add-ons like a forum, chat, guestbook, games, and counters. FreeWebs is nice for beginners, but pretty useless for anyone who knows even html to make webpages. Their site is extremely slow now, and the 100 file limit makes it so that you can not host anything requiring many images.

If you know even html, you do NOT want to host here. If you must, do NOT use the free web page templates they provide. They are overused, and annoying when many people use them. The file hosting is not really good here. You also get that toolbar on top for freewebhosting, which is annoying if you want a more professional website. But if you just want to chat with people and whatnot, go ahead and sign up.

I never got through the first 7 day period before my free site went down. The HTML editor IS VERY EASY to learn. I feel so far the features offered are very good. Free website template switching on the fly is very cool. Just being down for over 7 hours now is a real pain though. I have used another free web hosting service at 50megs.com, and their interface is a little harder for a beginner webmaster, and there are ads that need to be to dealt with, but overall it is a site that is still going strong.

For a web hosting service that is totally free, I think FreeWebs is an excellent option. If one wants a more multi-leveled or fancy website, one should be prepared to pay more. I have not had a reply from questions I e-mailed to their support team, but found that changes and updates I made were reflected soon enough, and that the web site is searchable via search engines, so the questions were answered in an indirect way. Millions of customers would not be wrong. It serves my needs with regards to flexibility, self-done updates, and having a free website that is not used for full-time professional purposes or something that would generate interest within a very small market.

I have used googlepages, geocities, and some others, and I love the ease of this site. It was easy to put things together for a beginner webmaster like me. I love the options that you have: counter, shoutbox, forms, and they are all EASY as pie to install. It is true, Freewebs do have a limitation of 100 files. However the filesize limit is NOT 1 MB now. How could this be true if I had uploaded music file MUCH larger than this? Therefore that fact is untrue. Freewebs now does support hosting top level domains after a vote a few months ago, but it does not work for all. For those who know HTML coding, it is best for them to use Freewebs, as the only necessary thing that shows it is part of Freewebs hosting is your URL and/or the bottom banner saying "This site is hosted for free at Freewebs.com". This host has a customizable shoutbox, chat room, blogs, counters, guestbooks and ways to become friends or message other freeweb users. Easy Builder users can add some html as well. This is a very good host, and you only need to log in after an upload if it is more than 40 Kb. But if you are going to use many files as your own and, say, not linking them from Photobucket, you may wish to go Premium for unlimited web space.

There are no ads, really. do not trust the liars. Once they wanted to add a banner, but after a while (and users' complaints) they removed it, and you are free to add it or not. You can even customize the bar. You do not need to log in after every upload. Seriously, do you think they will be so many freewebs users if it was the case? People can "access" your file (.jpg); they are not redirected like with multimania.com. The Free Webs staff really cares about what the users want. The only bad point is the file limitation to 100. And they warn you when you reach about 50 uploaded files. In my case, I upload my numerous images in another account which is like a store file account. Oh and I find the bandwith slower than other free web sites hosts. And if you do not believe, try. Make up your own mind.

This is probably the worst free web host out there. Not only are they loaded with ads, but if someone reports you, they ban you without even checking. You have to contact them and have them check through your web site (which takes about a week), and then they will unban you. They limit you with a lousy 512MB of monthly bandwidth and 40MB free web space, and do not even let you have a yourdomain.freewebs.com subdomain. Instead they make you use freewebs.com/your-folder, and have this bar right above the ads which says "Freewebs" (another one, as there is another bar underneath your free web pages). They also put ads in-between text. They are so bad they do not even let you use FTP uploading files. instead you must use their website builder to make your web site or the browser to upload your web page files.

Good points: Freewebs hosting is an incredibly powerful web development tool. New users can create a free web page within minutes, and experienced web-veterans can use the ample free space to their advantage. The interface can be tricky for new users to adjust to, but is easy and intuitive once you have mastered it. Freewebs proved useful for hosting and displaying my flash-based web page, and is also ad-free if you use an ad-blocking browser like Firefox or Camino.

Bad points: Your free webs hosting account has to be older than 7 days before you can upload files larger than 750KB. Other restrictions also apply to accounts younger than 7 days.

Now I would give Free Webs hosting service a 10 rating, but sometimes it can be very slow web server, but not often. This web hosting is one of the WORST I have ever seen. I started using it two years ago. At the start, I have the following feelings:

1. This free webs hosting server can't be used as a data storage since it doesn't allow outside web sites to access its documents, which is both good and bad because it protects you but obstructs you to do what you want.

2. This free web hosting is quite good, provides certain amount of features which are quite useful.

Now I have the following feelings:

1. This webhosting is NO GOOD at all because it doesn't tell you that you can only upload 100 files until you are uploading more than 100 files.

2. Free Webs is VERY ANNOYING because no matter what you do with uploading, you have to log out and log in again after each upload (I am a free member).

3. It has errors occuring when you log in and out a few times, and it is very FRUSTRATING.

4. This free web hosting is only suitable for beginners with a small website. I am not doing a school project with it, and it makes me do it all over again, which is a huge waste of time and a huge dissappointment.

I recommend people not to use this free hosting service, as this will only bring you DISSAPOINTMENT AND FRUSTRATION. And if you don't believe the above, try it, and see what happens.

Freewebs is the best host I have ever had. Truthfully, I have tried Yahoo Geocities, Tripod, and even a bunch of free hosting sites listed here. I have eleven web pages, uploaded more than 1 MB at a time, and I have absolutely no ads on my site at all. And no, I haven't bought any type of Premium service. They are also very customizable. Sure, they have the Easy Site Builder, which isn't the best tool in the world, but even if you only know a little HTML, you can create a great free web page in Advanced website builder. They have added a toolbar, similar to Blogger, but you can turn this option off and leave it off! The only thing they ask is that you provide a link back to their main page on the bulk of your free websites, something like I did, such as "This page hosted at Freewebs.com." You do this, and you will find the Free Webs service very rewarding. Note: It is very preferable to host your pictures elsewhere, such as one of the free picture hosting sites listed here.

2. File uploads (apart from the fact you can only upload 20 files at once), once you are finished with the uploads, you can't continue without logging back in every time.

3. Same issues as above. I upload 100s of files a day (want to upload more) but am limited as I can only log in 5 times and after that I can't get access my admin area for hours.

This is a WONDERFUL website! I have tried many free webs hosts, but this is just great. They frequently update with new ideas for your free website such as templates, uploading and other goods. You can also make "friends" with people on their system, however, you can be kept private with your profile. I highly recommend this free web site hosting service, not only by the great things it has as a webhost, but the fact they will help you in less than 2 days. (Keep in mind that the file limit now is not 50, but 100).

I love Freewebs! Their services used to be quite limited, but lately they have innovated to provide basically whatever you could want in a free web site. You can edit practically every aspect of the web page, add background music, pictures, videos, and flash games easily through their free web site editor program. There is also a simple HTML editor available if you desire to use the website that way. I rate Freewebs with a 10 because they have yet to not meet a requirement that I have had for my hosted web site. They offer ample file hosting and an efficient user interface. I will likely never have to find another host for my website again.

I decided to give them a try. The first day things went fine. I used the free website templates, as I am not an efficient HTML coder. Since then I have been unable to access the Site Manager at all, so in about 3 days I have not updated my web site. When I asked the livechat help person, she was very robotic with her answers saying they were doing maintanance to make the service better. Not true. The service has gotten worse and worse over time. Their little notices about a few hours downtime is a total lie, as the servers remain down and the Site Managers remain unusable for days at a time. I emailed them and told them that honestly, they weren't giving me much confidence in becoming a subscriber if they cannot stablize the servers. It is important to have all the functions up and running at all times for your clients, and they have yet to prove to me that they are worth any money at all.

First of all, they have reasonably good customer service - kind and polite. The 50 file limit isn't very good. The reason I am giving them such a bad rating is their domain service. It took me forever to register my domain. Jumping through hoop after hoop. Second it costs 20.20 a year. Extremely high price considering you can get domains for as low as 3 dollars a year. It got really bad when I wanted to re-register my domain name somewhere else. I thought it would be cheaper to let the name expire and then re-register it, cheaper then transferring it. How wrong I was. It says no where on their entire website that when you cancel your domain they are going to try and auction it to make more money. It also says that if you want to get it back before it auctions you must pay 80 dollars. On top of it all you must wait 30 days, then a two week auction period. I am done with Freewebs.com. They will never see any business from me again. Seeing as how I am a web development person, they may be missing out on a lot of money.

Positive aspects: easy to use, and price.
Negative aspects: very slow server, very limited bandwidth, very limited customers service, and the server gets hung up a lot.

I hate this site. 50 files gets used up fast especially if you have a lot of pictures. Or if you want it to be a graphics site, you'll have to upload all the pictures and that alone takes up 50 MB. I used this host for about two or three months and it was never down but if you think about it, it isn't all that good. I used this host the first time I ever started web developing. A lot of people like this host because it has free templates and a lot of other stuff but if the stuff that is most important is not there, then it definetely not a good host.

For example, on the Easy Build, they give you many tools, like free games from Miniclip. they may only let you have 50 files, but you can have much more of everything else, so if i was you, use this webhost. They also give you an oppertunity to upgrade your free website to .com., us, .net, .biz, and more! What are you waiting for? make your website now. Oh, one more thing: you will have your free website in less than one minute (if you can find an available username).

Freewebs free hosting has a range of features, guestbook, blog, photo album, and polls. It has help and a very easy website editor. For free it also hosts a html option. It is very weird, and if you are still a bit shaky on html, I would recomend sticking to the wysiwyg editor.

freewebs premium hosting (paid) has ok list of features:
- Webs Unlimited - Unlimited Pages, Paragraphs, and Files
- 1,500 Mb (1.5 Gb) monthly bandwidth allowance
- 200 Megabytes (MB) of webspace
- Removal of the FreeWebs FreeBar
- Multiple Simultaneous File Uploading
- 1,000 web form/feedback submissions per month
- WebsAlbum Upgrade - Unlimited WebsAlbum Pictures
- Webzoom - Blazing Fast File Downloads plus video and music streaming
- Password Protected Pages
- DNS Hosting (Domain Name Not Included)

That is $42 a year, which is the same as £23.
I reccomend for larger web sites this option which you can upgade to after you have registered.

Practically no support at all. I emailed them several times about bugs with my page, but all they send you is one of the FAQ answers. Also, this site is TERRIBLE for Mac users. If you have a Mac like me, DON'T USE THIS SITE, period. There's a bug in the page manager so when you click "submit" to get a new page, nothing happens. Only good for PC Internet Explorer. I am a new freewebs user, and so far I'm very happy with the service. I'm kind of a dunce when it comes to web design, but after experimenting with HTML, I decided I wanted to do my own page. The site manager is slow to load if you have dialup, but once it's loaded you can do just about anything. I now have a very nice webpage that I did practically all by myself, and I even got my cousin to create his art page on freewebs.

My only gripe is that it says in the FAQs that the site works best with FireFox - no it doesn't! Your best bet is to use IE - you won't get kicked off all the time, and the page editor will actually work: It WILL NOT WORK WITH MOZILLA FIREFOX!

How long do I plan to stay? No idea, but if you're looking for a free & (very) easy webhosting service, give it a try.

For me, the file size limit was not an issue. It IS possible to upload many files at once. Upload a.zip file and click 'edit' in the site manager, then delete the zip file. Only a text link to freewebs is required. One note however: Don't stick with the awful templates they offer. Learn to code HTML or use a WYSIWYG editor. The results will be far better.

I experinced it for 2 years. This free web hosting is really bad at HTML Support until you upgrade your account to that way for free but it will stay like that forever so you have to use HTML Codes all the time which is annoying for beginners. When I upload music its ok..But it didnt upload my MP3's so it stinks of the 1MB Limit. Its really easy to use and simple as pie but it doesn't have spoilers or anything special for non-premuim members so people could stop copying your own website. It doesn't let you add side bars and stuff until your upgrade it to HTML Coding Mode or copy from someone else. 99% Of the upgrades make you pay more MONEY. Its only slow to people to with dialup when uploading stuff. The free web space is very limited to pepole who like to have alot of pages in their website. I would say the backgrounds and layouts of the website stinks. I do not recommand this website to people who like to have alot of webspace on there website and I do not recommand this website to people who want there own designs, cursors, layouts, music etc and stuff. I do recommand this to ALL Beginners but definely not people that know alot about creating a website. The features are bad until you upgrade them. I've tried this host a few times before. I would NOT reccomend them. I've always ended up deleteing my account. First off, they hardly have any layouts at all (and they're all terrible). I personally find it hard to use and build. Let me tell you this - If you're using their free host, you website will never amount to much. All the HTML codes are messed up, and the signup button doesn't even work anymore, so if you want to create a new site there, don't count on it. Personally, I think almost all free hosts are bad. They just don't have very many features, or ways to personalize and customize you page. If you want to have a good original site, you'll probably have to make it yourself and pay for it to be hosted. My own site is hosted through earthlink, since that's my email, and I'm quite proud of it. But I've always hated the sites I've made through free hosts and ended up deleting them.

I would not recommend this free webhost to anyone. I used to have a site there but was very upset to discover that I could not build more than 7 pages and that there was also a limit on the number of files you can upload. Why not just have a flat MB allowance? Never mind this nonsense of number of pages/number of files.

But that is not the worst thing about it! Since I installed Spyware Blaster on my computer (a free program to protect against spyware being sneakily installed) I have not been able to visit ANY Freewebs site. Spyware Blaster has a huge database of "dangerous" sites and I took advantage of their option to restrict me from going to any of the sites on their "bad" list. So, seeing that I can no longer go to a Freewebs site (the page just loads blank and says it's "Done"), I can only assume that Freewebs puts spyware on your computer. This is not going to encourage visitors to your site! So BEWARE!

The past few days I have not been able to even reach the freewebs homepage between about 8 and 10 in the morning, but others sites have been fine. And, as others have said, it is not truely ad free. Freewebs has a very user friendly web editing tool and their support people have been very responsive to my needs. I've been using it for about two months. Recommended to newbies as a starting point, or if you need a professional-looking website in no time.

But most of them can be fixed by paying for them, which might I add, they are the cheapest web host I've ever seen! Also I recomend hosting your files somewhere else to make them load faster. Also if you want php, they have told me that they are working on getting it soon!

I took this host up on a test drive a few months ago and started on beginners mode. It was very easy to use, and an exceptional HTML generator. I switched to HTML mode and was even more impressed. I was given full control over the codes I created and have since then upgraded to a premium user. As a freehost, I think 40MB is more than enough for a medium sized web-site, and the staff at freewebs always answer questions quickly and helpfully. Much better than geocities or yahoo.

What are the free webhost's positive and negative aspects?
+ easy to use
- in the beginer mode, there's a 7 page limit
+ beginer and advanced modes
- sometimes you get timed out for no reason at all

Would you recommend this free hosting?
I would definately reccommend this host for beginers.
If you're a little bit more advanced and want a larger more in-depth site, you probably shouldn't sign up here.

How long have you used this free webspace host?
Years and years

Has this free web hosting been reliable (approximate % downtime if known)?
Well, most of the time it's up, but there are those days when you just can't log in for whatever reason.

Is the free web host fast or slow?
My opinion of fast/slow is most likely not the same as someone else's opinion of fast/slow. But I must say that the uploading always takes forever! You should probably have a seperate image host.

Is the free webhost's support/features good or bad?  Why?
There is some support, but not much. I can't really say if it's good or not, seeing as I haven't used the features before.

This is web hosting for begginers, lacks polish (PHP), and has a plathora of bugs, load times are the slowest I've ever seen, and you only get 500MB of traffic, but, if you are a begginer, this is pretty good for you... look elsewhere if you want a complex site. The learning curve is about 5 minutes, and this is the only reason I didn't give it a 1. It has horrible loading times, you are limited to 50 downloads, and it gets annoying at times when you are timed-out for no reason. I would not recommend this to experianced users. I have used this service for about 6 months, and I hate to use it, but I started something, so might as well finish it. this is the most ureliable web host I have ever used, everything is in slow motion, and even if you subscribe, you face horrible loading times, and you lose downloaded files. It is the slowest, you could take a nap, and something would still be loading, and Im using a super-fast Alienware Area-51, with an Intel Pentuim 4 processor at 3.6Ghz. Finnaly, I must say that for 2 years of their work, this is still missing just about everything (PHP) that is needed in web hosting.

*sigh* FreeWebs...*stares moodily at computer*

FreeWebs is a good web hosting service for small sites and beginners at HTML. I especially liked their instant website creation tools (for complete novices) and organized web pages (good navigation!). They also have no pop-ups or ads of any kind, which is pretty nice. However, uploading small images to their server often takes more than five minutes, and you can only upload files one at a time. That stinks. I spend about two hours uploading these files...where has my life gone???? *runs away and sobs* They also do not allow FTP, which is sort of stupid, and they require you to add a line of code linking to the FW home page in every HTML document.

After several months with FreeWebs, I suddenly realized that Freewebs only allows a maximum of fifty files. *flashback: I'm sitting at my desk hitting upload button, and suddenly the forces of darkness consumes my computer... NOOOOO!!!!* I finally decided to switch web hosts.

So remember: If you're looking for a free web host with FTP, more than 40MB storage, more than 50 files, and fast browser uploading...don't use FreeWebs.

Some people love it - some people hate it.  It's true that is has several shortcomings, not the least important being it's infamous slow speed, particularly in downloading files. Add to that the fact that you can't use any download manager such as GetRight or Download Accelerator and you have yourself a big fat "Ouch".

But, it's very easy to use, so beginners will like to take it out for a test drive. I did, and now I host my page there. But I'd reccomend everyone not to upload there at all - not only uploading AND downloading is slow, if people download a lot from your site you'll soon run out of bandwidth. What you have to do is host the files SOMEWHERE ELSE - specifically for uploading and storing files, and very good at it. I'm quite satisfied with my website, despite this workaround that, were Freewebs better, wouldn't be necessary. All in all, I do reccomend it, as long as your expectations are not too high. This is for personal pages, small affairs, and such, not big stuff.

I love freewebs.com, its very good! I have like a trick or something like that to make more than 7 pages, if you dont know it... you can delete a website, and then you memorize the address, or copy and paste it, and you put a hyperlink to the website you delete... but you only can create if you dont have pictures, or something, 50 websites, because then, it is saved like a file, and if you are not going to use it, delete it in the files seccion.

I used to be with this webhost and let me tell you... It stinks!

Q.What are the free webhost's positive and negative aspects?
A. It's got a good staff, and a good bandwidth limit  (1GB per month!!), but it's filemanager and uploader needs desperate improvement. IT takes too long to upload certain files, and uploading 1 file at a time... well... stinks

Q. Would you recommend this free webhosting?
A. No! No! AND NOOO!

Q. How long have you used this free web space host?
A. Almost a yer now.. and I' still not satisfied.

Q. Has this free web hosting been reliable (approximate % downtime if known)?
A. This web host is reliable... and yet not... IT usually NEVER has downtime.... but still...

Q. Is the free web host fast or slow?
A. I would have to say that this webhost is pretty slow... my files show up after long periods of time, and logging in takes WAY too long!

Q. Is the free web host's support/features good or bad?  Why?
A. The support/features are pretty bad... I'd have to say... They offer good tech support... but it could be way better... like faster replies maybe? Don't even get me started with the whole DOMAIN thing... *Makes a really angry face* You have to wait for at least 24-48 hours for the domain to be up, and you still don't get advanced features like a multi-file uploader... you have to pay MORE money...

Trust me people... you really don't want this host! This host only offers 40MB of space to top it off, as well! I've seen amateur hosting sites that have more space available. I would stick with a REAL webhost like 100 Web Space for good hosting.

It took me about five minutes to make a site, but the site builder they offer and the templates probably saved me weeks. I had another site with another hosting company. They gave me a site, but I thought I needed a users manual to figure out how to do it.

I am making a professional site, so I hope to be making money on my site soon. They don't charge me to do this. I can have it for free for as long as I want, or until I have enough traffic to pay for it. Even then, it costs like a buck a month. I lose that much change a month. This site is really great.

At first I was annoyed by some of the limits like the amount of pages I could have. So I went looking for other hosts. WOW! The others hosts stink compared to freewebs.

Freewebs offer templates that most think they do, but probably don't know much about making a site look good. The file size limits of other hosts really stink, while freewebs allowed me at least 1Mb (I wouldn't mind more, but hey, its free).

I also noticed that many hosts have the worst, most confusing site builders. I don't think I have come across an easier site builder than freewebs.

And I also wasn't sure if I would get good support from freewebs since they don't have phone service, but they actually helped add things on my site I didn't understand at first.

GO FREEWEBS!

Ok, i started using freewebs in about august of '03 for a community project, not for profit etc etc.

Positives: free, advanced web available (i can upload what i want and how i want not WYSIWYG premade template junk) and it has a short member subdomain url (www.freewebs.com/username).

Negatives: yeah the 50 file limit was a bit annoying, as its a tad difficult to appeciate just how many files go into making a nice looking site. In the end i did what another reviewer did, signed up for two accounts and crosslinked them, (its not mentioned as a no-no in their fair use agreement, not that i exploit things like this ;oP)

Up until about 5 minutes ago i "believed" it to have been running fairly well, last time i looked at the site was back in May as i no longer make updates. But for no reason my index.htm on my second site no longer "works" all the code is there but it displays it as a blank...not good seeing as its a main page. it also contains all the frame information for the entire site! grrr.
I then tried to upload another version of the index.htm file it just bugged out and did nothing...zippo...i tried a few other links on their main site and member area and nothing works...including the help area. So now i don't want to delete the files because i can't upload a new version.
I haven't had any need to contact support before now, and now the links aren't working on their site.
I have given it a rating of 4/10 as it was ok, and i put up with the single file upload (it took me nearly three hours to upload 100 files over two sites), but this latest debarkle is very frustrating and thus its lost about 3 points. Also i have found that google won't accept freewebs sites into their database which is a pain for community information sites like the one i created.

bad: lets start with the BIGGEST PROBLEM: a 7-page limit. all free hosters i've been to NEVER have this, and it is ANNOYING! also, they have a file limit and a size limit. and costimer service? lemme give you some perspective: i sent in a question when i first started, and i NEVER got a reply. i've sent in questions many times before and have never gotten replies.

Overall, freewebs has been good. I don't know any HTML, so it was easy to make a site - and free. Site showed up on Google and other search engines after I submitted it. BUT: I'm bummed about the file limits and whats worse, several of my site's pages went "blank". I had downloads for some games I made on them and also some information and links. Nothing that would seem to violate any rules. But someone or something just deleted them. It would take quite a while to reconstruct and that's not cool.

Not a bad site for simple websites.  Only complaint is that if there is one thing wrong on a page, you get the 404 error saying could not display page and then about 3 popups appear for advertisements.  Very difficult to figure out what went wrong.  Simple things like putting a single quote in a title or using characters other than English.  Otherwise, pleased with simplicity and attempt to make personal websites.

Hi, well I started using Freewebs as a web host about 5 months ago when I found Geocities a bit too complicated.  At first I thought wow it's so easy, but then after I tryed putting in some html codes (how they showed it in their tutorials) and it didnt work.  I dont know if it just happens to me or there is something wrong with the codes, but i was very dissapointed.  I really have no trouble with the seven page limit because I dont really need more than that.
Another thing that I dont like is that the chat room addon doesn't work for me!  It works for some of my friends but not for others.  I haven't contacted them yet (I will do so today) and I hope to get an answer.  Also their file upload is horrible (& it's not my comp because it's brand new).  I have tried to upload many times a background but it never works.
So for an over all conclusion Freewebs is a great host for beggginers who know no html or any thing like that and just want a very very very simple site.  But I wouldn't recomend it to anyone who wants a more profesional looking site.  Even tho it has all these problems it's still great because it's free and alltho I wish i was better I want to thank them because for a free web hosting site its not so bad, and it's one of the simplest to work with out there!

I'm using this free hosting since year 2000, no complaint about them at all.

All the free service limitations (500GB bandwidth, 50 file limit) can be turned into 1GB bandwidth limit and no file limit for a few bucks. And if you register a domain name through them (as I did, for about $18 a year) then you get the same advantages at no extra cost.

Web space is 50MB at first, but I sent an email and I was granted 100MB without giving any other explanations.

The remote ZIP uncompression is an EXCELLENT feature and, although it's not very well documented, it's a really powerful web updating tool. If updating your website doesn't require regular file deletions, then you should consider this feature in depth.

I haven't had bad experiences regarding down-time.

I got the advanced service (you use HTML to make your pages) and it was great for a while. Then I reached the 50 file limit, which really stinks. And as my site got to be more popular, I ran out of bandwidth and my site was down for a month. If you want to avoid this happening, you have to pay 80 bucks a year. I moved to freehosting.hostrave.com, which is an excellent service where I get tons of cool services (like unlimited pages and bandwidth) all for free. I only gave freewebs a 2 because it's easy to use.

1. You can't delete or rename any folder you create on the server.
2. they don't warn you about the file upload limit of 50 or this warning is hidden somewhere.

I have mixed feelings about this webserver. First off - this is my first website, so I haven't experienced anything else.

I'm using the expert option, so I have a 50 file limit, which I just reached. I don't want to use paypal or stormpay, so I followed a link to ask for details on how to pay straight by credit card. The link opens an email for you, which you send (blank) and receive a reply that gives you information on how to pay.
Well, that is the theory anyway. I have sent three emails to that email address, and not received an answer. It seems that they don't want my money, which is odd.

Pluses - easy to use editor; reliable server (while I've been using it anyway); reliable user-end server (editing the site); option of uploading html files through the expert option; really minimal adverts - come on, it is just ONE line, for a free website; cheap premium services (if they work as advertised...)

Minuses - Big questions about the customer service. I really want to sign up to the premium service, but I am going to check out their customer support some more before I do.

Worst site I've ever seen.  I joined the Premium and got nothing for it.  I've send in a message asking for help every day for a week and have never got a reply.  Once my site was built, I asked why the money I paid had not gotten me the services as advertised..and no reply.  I asked why I could not multiload, nor put in linked files, or allow downloading from the site and no answer.  Even the button to allow a 'link to file' is missing from the taskbar.  Can't link, can't upload, can't do most of the promised upgrades.  What's going on here!  HEY FREEWEBS!!!  ANYONE HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's pretty good. I've used it for I don't know...six months? I max out on bandwith a lot though so that is frustrating. Very fast, about three days downtime for no reason, not a whole lot to say about that.

I have a whole load of images (that's all I basically use it for) but sometimes they won't load. I can't say anything about the suppost features because I haven't run into any problems.

This site is intended for people with at least simple HTML skills. I haven't used it on Beginner but I haven't heard a lot of good for that. I reccomend this to people with a low traffic site or just to host a couple images.

Well..when I first started using freewebs(about 3 months ago) I had no HTML knowlege so I used the begginer mode..I was blown away by the uploading speeds after using GeoCities..And no forced banner ads!..The only problems I had were the counters not showing for a while..I also loved the way you could copy and paste pictures...(not happy about the 7 page limit though) But besides that they make it really easy to get a simple web page going!

Now 3 months later I am an advanced user and loving it too. I like how you can use MS Frontpage instead of using thiers..And you can still copy and paste pictures using their design view..

Over all I have had no major problems with frewebs and will probably never change hosts..

Very disappointed with this site. I use it strictly as a webalbum. I purchased the premium service but it is far from "premium". Until a month ago, it worked fine but slow. I deleted the pics and started over, replacing them with smaller versions. Now, the websalbum won't show any pics. When I go to the site manager site everything seems to be in order. But when I try to open the websalbum, nothing happens. Have sent two emails for help, but so far, these have gone ignored. Very frustrating!!!

Although others have had problems with this host, I have had none. I wouldn't know about tech support, accordingly, but the site is very quick to load - and that counts for uploading, too. Being an advanced html user, I have over 7 pages, and my bandwith is doing fine.

Ok, first of all, the seven page limit only applies in beginner mode. If you're in advanced mode, you can have up to fifty, as the pages count as files. Second of all, I think that these people should realize that freewebz is more intended for advanced users, knowledgable in html.

I started using FreeWebs a couple months ago, and we got so many hits at first we went over the bandwidth in a week. Then, we couldn't get on the site. So my friend and i split the price for the premium service, like 20 bucks for six months, not much at all. Now I can't really find anything about it that i dislike. Stop complaining about limited service and just pay some pocket change and get premium.

Ugh. This webhost kinda stinks. It limits the amounts of files you have, including number of pages. And you can only upload ONE file at a time! There's absolutely no tech support, and it's slow. It takes too long to upload big files, even when I'm not using dial-up. There's no FTP access (from what I know), and it dosen't even support PHP. The only thing even remotely good about it is the layouts. Other than that, everything else stinks.

I love freewebs.com! It gives you an option of beginner(point-and-click) website or advanced (programming) website. It doesn't give you a domain name but freewebs.com is easy to remember. I have used this host for a few years and the only problem is that you can't use forms (buttons etc.), otherwise I think it has all I need. I have been using Freewebs for 5 months now. And I use four accounts for my two sites which I host on them. Freewebs would get a more favourable review if they had worked at all today.

The download speed is so slow that a 5MB file took me over an hour to download on broadband. The upload speed is slow, and the site is often down. Their help is useless, and I e-mailled them two weeks ago and haven't had a reply yet... I resolved the problem of not being able to open the File Manager: change the server in the address bar by changing the number (when it says members4.freewebs.com or whatever, change the number).

The best things about this host are probably that you can upload your own site, and edit it in HTML (although their site only works with later versions of Internet Explorer, and doesn't have any support for Macs.) And of course not having to have any pop ups or banner ads, that is the best thing.

Ok, this host seems all nice and all in the beginning but then you find out that it's awful. It got a really nice feature for beginner users to make your webpage look nice in like 20 mins. I was too lazy to write the code for a webpage that was of secondary importance to me, so I just used that.

But then I found out something very interesting. 7 page limit. What the hell is that??!! I mean, really, 7 pages? I needed 10 at least. If you are an advanced user, u got 50 files limit. The space limit is 100+ megs, yeah, but how r u gonna get such huge 50 files? I mean, you gotta have a page, too. And images for it. Bullshit.

Then another great thing is that their site is constantly down. Ur site is not, it shows up fine, but you can't go in and edit anything. So okay, whatever. Now I find out that their site doesn't even work half the time. I try to go edit my page, I click the "site manager" link and it says "error." Been doing that for 3 days straight now. No way to edit my site. When this is the only time I can do it.

I tried to get some support. What do you think I found out? THERE IS NONE. You click on the "tech support" link and you get this stupid FAQ saying what the hell the menubar does. Wow like I'm that stupid to figure that one out. No link to send comments/questions/anything to them.

Overall, if this worked it would've deserved 7 rating. But without any tech support and errors all over the place, this does not deserve anything higher than 1.

Thank you FreeWebs for your GREAT service. I will be moving to another host as soon as possible.

At first, Freewebs looks very promising. What could be better? 50 megabytes of storage space, and, oh look! Some cool forms you can have people fill out. Then you find out that any add-ons you put on don't work for a week after you sign up. Then afterwards, you are hit with the 25 form submission limit. Not per month, period. Also, no hotlinking. If for some strange reasoning (sarcasm) you would want to hotlink to a file on a different server to avoid the super-slow downloads they force for files over 1 megabyte, you can't becuase hotlinking to and from freewebs is forbidden. And then you come to their support section to try and report some awful bug you found in their site, and there is NO EMAIL SUPPORT WHATSOEVER. I am very disappointed with this site, and had I not created my site on this server, I definately would not be using it.

They are a really bad service. I recently went from their beginner mode to the advanced mode and I was unable to save changes to my website because I am a Mac user and it doesn't work with Mac. I can't switch back to the beginner mode either. So what am I supposed to do? I am waiting for  an email back from them about this but they aren't that good about emails either. They don't even answer you if you don't pay and I think they have raised their prices. The only email that I got from them after asking for help was the one that said that I couldn't save changes because it doesn't work with internet explorer on mac . I got one other email but it didn't help me at all. If you are thinking about getting your website hosted by freewebs just know that their service isn't that great and if you are a mac user forget it. I might change my opinion a little if their next email actually helps me but I am not counting on it.

My rating goes down further (used to be 7) when i spent the whole day designing a site and wham it wasn't at all right.
Let me back up a little. I wanted to use an easy builder and get a good amount of pages. Using the beginner user stage, i built 7 pages. As i went for the 8th, i was stopped by a pop up message claiming 7 pages per free account beginner user. So i go to Advanced User and of course you can make as many pages as you like (50 file limit) but you need to know HTML to link your pages together and the HTML builder is slow. I think it is an OK host but the HTML builder is confusing and i can't add any images! The easybuilder lets you merely copy and paste your images to the pages. Quite nice. But still 7 pages for the beginner, and 50 i guess for the advanced. The example page i made (http://www.freewebs.com/lizziemcguiretv/) used the Easy Builder and took only about 45 minutes.

Folks, I don't know what is the problem with Freewebs but they do not reply to my questions for Help. Their tech support is either non-existent or is ignoring my messages on purpose. No Reply. zero. Very rude.

The problem I'm having is that the step-by-step instructions in the "Build your Site" Help file do not agree with the available options or buttons when I get to the Edit Page/Paragraph, so obviously I ask for some clarification, but no help or reply. To be fair,
I haven't noticed any problems with their servers, and the rest of the webpage builder is great for novices. Being a novice at webpage building, I expected a bit of help, but have received zero.

If any of you knows what is the trick or procedure to be able to take an uploaded .mp3 file and make it "downloadable" from the site, please help. Also, I am unable to delete an .mp3 file from the DOCS MANAGER, it simply won't delete, even though I have been able to delete any other type of file.

Because my site is small, requiring only 5 pages, I am
fine with the 50-file limit, 7-page limit, and other limitations such as slow-serving rates for downloads.
(well, if I could only get the .mp3 file to be available from the page). But the issue with techsupport has made me very unhappy so I rate this company at 2.

I went as far as looking up their parent company,
UpIN60 Technologies Inc., to see if I could find an e-mail
or a telephone number to get some help. I found their
e-mail and wrote: no reply. I phoned and got an answer machine, left a message, no reply.

My messages to them have been courteous, so I don't think
it is an issue with me being abusive, I haven't been so.
I suspect it is the fact that I'm using the free service
as opposed to their Premium "service".

I go to build a spacious, 10 page or more site, when i find- 7 page limit! Only 7 cruddy small pages! What a rip!

This is a good host for those who don't have a big site or need more than 7 pages. But 7 is the free acount limit no matter what you do.

Well, bottom line, good host BUT it really needs to let you have about 10-15 pages.

Well, that's all the bad stuff. Now for the good:

*Good site Builder
*Fast
*Service is good
*They make the Navigation menu for you-phew!
*No stupid HTML

And yet i'm turned off by only 7 pages!
Well the site i've made is pretty good, but still it's SEVEN pages. So, whatever.

Freewebz [FreeWebs] looked ideal when I signed up a few months ago. I needed room to consolidate a lot of little web sites into one large one, and peace of mind to finish the whole thing.

First, when I signed up, they prompted me to choose the language of my web site. I did. Then when I started to build, the accents on the words were not showing up properly. I asked their techs for help. They said they don't support special character sets for languages other than English!  Well, then WHY at signup ask you which language your site will be if you don't support it.

Okay, I used HTML special characters, you know, etc., to fine-tune my layouts.  To my horror, the freewebz servers simply wiped out all special HTML characters. Their techs were never able to explain why, or fix it.

Then, I had to upload a lot of PDF files. Another surprise... there is no provision in the freewebz file manager for pdf files, i.e., you can't click on them inside the file manager to see them & you can't select to copy and paste, you just can't grab the address at all. The freewebz techs seemed surprised anyone would want to use PDF files, and suggested the only way to get at them was: type their paths into the location finder of my browser!  Wow, nice long way to work.  Then, when I had to finally access those files in order to clone them to another web site, I had a hard time getting at them. Even typing them into the location finder, they often would not come up. I lost some irreplaceable PDF files.

The upload of one file at a time was a hassle when I signed up, but for the 100 megs space, and another 200 megs later at a cheap price that the techs quoted me, with unlimited bandwidth, I thought I could live with it. For the first few months, it seemed every time I wanted to work on my web site, the freewebz server was either down or so slow it was a waste of my time. Their techs apologised and apologised, and finally said they were moving to faster servers. Great, that happened just around Christmas 2002.  Finally, the moment I had been waiting for, I could consolidate all my files from several smaller web sites and work to FINISH my nice big web site.  I had 30 megs of space left in freewebz, enough to last me till I could afford to pay for the next 200 megs.  I logged in and started to upload. Got the surprise of my life: no uploads allowed any more because I had over 50 files in my directories!  I had not yet used up the 100 megs of "free space" they had promised me, and now again my entire account was essentially frozen. I had waited months, very patiently, for these guys to get their act together, and after all that patience, I was rewarded with a rude slap in the face by finding my upload shut off without the simple courtesy that is so easy of sending an advance e-mail to your members to let them know you PLAN to shut off uploads after 50 files at such-and-such a date, REGARDLESS of the alleged 100 megs promised.

So much for the name "FREEwebz". It's more like "hijackwebs", once they get 80 or so megs of your files in their servers and hold a gun to your head to pay up or shut off your access.

I don't like dealing with people who can't keep their word, and who behave toward me as a member and customer in a way that makes me feel they do not care if I trust them or not.

I deleted my 80 megs of files one at a time in order to move them and start over again.

So much for "free" web hosts.

Rather confusing host this is.
At the main page they clearly say that free users get 100MB of space and other stuff too.
But when i log in to my account and look my stats it says there that free users have 40MB of space !! and when that is reached you may request more space by sending email to morespace@freewebs.com. Also in my stats it clearly says that my monthly Bandwidth allowance is only 100MB.
File manager allows only 1 file upload. that's not too nice. Tho uploading the file is fast. And you are forced to place this free user ad link in your site, they don't put it for you, it's your job to input that code into your .html file. quote from their site "all non-premium web pages hosted on FreeWebz must include our FreeWebs FreeBar code at the bottom of the page" and you have to get that code from the bottom of your site manager.

I've had my account from here approximately 5 months now, and ooops i've forgot to input that code. so my site is still ad free. but i guess it will be deleted soon if i don't put that code there.

And what makes this even more confusing is that i just talked with a friend of mine who also has an account here and in his account info it says that he has 500MB Bandwidth allowance per month, but for me it is 100MB. and both are totally the same free accounts.
Go figure.

Either the server is the slowest for me i've ever seen or they don't display .swf correctly at least at this time.

File manager was fairly nice, but only allows uploading 1 file at a time.  More options are available with upgrading to premium account, such as CGI, FTP, DNS service for domain names, and uploading 20 files at a time.
